Coordinates: 34°05′N 74°47′E / 34.09, 74.79 Srinagar pronunciation (Dogri: श्रीनगर; Urdu: سرینگر, Kashmiri: سِرېنَگَر श्रीनगर), is the capital of the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir that is administered by India. It is situated in Kashmir Valley and lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus. The city is famous for its lakes and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dry fruits. It is also the headquarters of Srinagar district
